Immediate international airports to Mayrhofen are located in, and Vienna (in ascending order of mileage).

We note right away that the most profitable air travel options for Russians are Moscow-Munich and Moscow-Salzburg. So, where to stay in Mayrhofen - inexpensive, but comfortable?

  • Hotel Rose 4* . One of the skiers' favorite hotel in Mayrhofen. Is located in quiet place, 5 minutes from the center. There is a ski bus stop nearby (however, 10 minutes to the ski lift with a calm step). A huge plus is the presence of underground parking and delicious home-style cuisine. Ideal for a family, relaxing holiday.

Mayrhofen: about the resort

Mayrhofen is one of the most popular and famous ski resorts in Austria. The picturesque resort is located on the border of two famous valleys of the country - Zillertal and Tuxetal, in the valley of the Ziller River. Mayrhofen has been known to our skiers for a long time: low prices, wild apres-ski, an excellent skiing area, coupled with a glacier - all this makes this town in Tyrol very attractive.

Skiing in Mayrhofen

There are three large ski areas in the Zillertal and Tuxertal valleys: SkiZillertal-3000 with the Hintertux glacier attached to it, Zillertal Arena and Hoch Zillertal, as well as several separate secondary areas: Fugen, Hoch Fugen, Furstalm and Gerlosstein, sometimes also referred to as Ramsberg.

Directly above Mayrhofen on opposite sides of the valley are Ahorn and Penken, these are 136 km of slopes. In total, the Zillertal valley offers more than 506 km of slopes in different ski sectors: First Zillertaler (Hochfügen, Hochzillertal, Kaltenbach, Spieljoch, Fugen), Zillertal Arena (139 km of slopes over the resorts of Zell and Gerlos), Ski & Glacierworld Zillertal 3000 (including Eggalm, Rastkogel , Finkenberg/Penken, Ahorn and Hintertux Glacier). Ahorn is recommended for beginners and skiers ready to handle red runs, while Penken is recommended for more experienced skiers. However, there are both blue and red slopes in both sectors of the ski area (they are located on opposite sides of the resort). Mayrhofen is famous for its famous black piste with the eloquent name "Harakiri": it is one of the steepest pistes in the Alps, with a gradient of up to 78%. "Harakiri" is considered the steepest track in Austria, and because of artificial snow there is often ice. Its passage requires a good physical form, steep slope skills and high concentration. For those who are not sure if this track is "too tough for them", the resort recommends that you first try your hand at "Devil's Run".

One of Mayrhofen's problems is the queues for the lower gondolas (which is especially common during the New Year period and high season). However, if you have a car at hand, you can drive it to Finkenberg or, in the other direction, to the Horbergbach ski lift (it is located near Hippach). Since 2016, this problem has been partially solved: a fast, roomy cabin now leads to Penken.

In half an hour you can reach the year-round skiing area on the Hintertux Glacier, one of the most wonderful glacier skiing areas in Austria. In general, Mayerhofen is dominated by red and blue runs, the lift system is well developed. A few years ago, a new ski lift connected the Penken/Gerent ski area with the very interesting Rastkogel area with long pistes of varying difficulty.

Skiing on the Hintertux glacier attracts especially trained skiers - even with a sharp warming in the valley at an altitude, excellent snow quality is guaranteed. Glacier trails are open all year round. In the center of the glacier there is a vast area of safe free skiing, where, depending on the weather, there may be virgin lands, firn or mounds. From the lift leading to the top point of the lift (3250 m) offers stunning views of the valleys and the Austrian Alps. It should be borne in mind that in winter it can be very cold and windy on Hintertux (down to -25 C).

10 km from Mayrhofen is the "Zillertal Ski Arena" - a large and connected ski area. It is convenient to take a ski safari along the slopes of the Zillertal valley: the multi-day ski pass includes the possibility of skiing not only directly above Mayrhofen, but also along the slopes of the entire valley. To the north of Mayrhofen, small cozy villages are scattered. Subscription (ski pass) Zillertaler Superskipass, which unites 10 ski resorts, provides unlimited use of all lifts, to the lower stations of which a free bus delivers.

Mayrhofen Hotels

There are many hotels of categories from 2 * to 5 * in Mayrhofen and the Zillertal valley, most of all in Mayrhofen itself there are good three-star and four-star hotels. The resort and neighboring villages in the Ziller Valley offer a large selection of modest and inexpensive accommodation in various pensions and Hotel Garni (as small hotels without a restaurant are called in Austria).

At the same time, both in Marchofen itself and in the Zillertal valley, it is not difficult to find good hotel 4 *, as a rule, with a pool and spa. The only 5*d hotel in Mayrhofen is the Elisabeth Hotel. This elegant chalet-style hotel has its own spa. Many of the hotel's rooms have their own oven. Among the "fours" best reviews- Alpenhotel Kremerwirt, Hotel Berghof, Hotel St.Georg, Manni Sporthotel, Neuhaus Hotel&Spa, Strass Fun & Spa Hotel. High season (Christmas - New Year, school holidays) prices for 4 * hotels start from 200-250 euros per room, many rooms in hotels of various categories are bought by Russian tour operators, so it is often more profitable to buy the whole package rather than book it in parts on your own.

One of the most popular ski resorts in Austria - Mayrhofen(Mayrhofen) located in a valley Zillertal.
The Ziller Valley is one of the largest ski areas in Austria, with a total of over 650 km of pistes and over 150 lifts.
In total, there are 11 ski areas in the Zillertal valley, united by a single ski pass, 4 zones are considered the main ones - the area of \u200b\u200bmountain Penkenjoch ( the villages of Mayrhofen, Hippach-Ramsau, Finkenberg), ski area Zell am Ziller - Gerlos - Kenigleiten (village of Zell am Ziller, ski area Fügen - Hochfügen - Kaltenbach and Hintertux Glacier(3250 km - year-round skiing). All ski areas are interconnected by ski buses and by train, which goes from the beginning of the valley (Jenbach station) to Mayrhofen. A unified ski pass "Superskipass" operates throughout the Ziller Valley, the price of which includes ski bus travel to each village and between them, as well as travel by train along the entire valley.
The most famous, popular and largest village in the valley is the resort of Mayrhofen, which has gained well-deserved fame as a youth resort, cheerful and "party" and at the same time inexpensive. Mayrhofen is the most "Russian" ski resort in Austria - there is practically no language barrier (Russian-speaking instructors, menus in Russian, Russian-speaking staff in some hotels and establishments, etc.) The village of Mayrhofen itself is located at an altitude of 630 m, so there is a milder climate compared to the resorts of West Tyrol.

Lifts and slopes in Mayrhofen
There are four main ski areas in Mayrhofen, unfortunately, unlike Ischgl and Sölden, they are not interconnected and in order to run in all areas, you need to use buses. Here are the main ski areas of Mayrhofen:
ZILLERTAL 3000(1600-2590 m.) This project has only recently united the Penken, Gorberg-Gerent, Rastkogel, Eggalm mountain ranges into an associated ski region (140 km of slopes). A variety of interesting skiing is possible here (including excellent conditions for snowboarders), although some slopes and lifts are overloaded and there are few options for beginners.
A high-speed gondola lift (for 15 people each) (only one intermediate support!) takes 4 minutes from the center of Mayrhofen to a height of 1800 m - the lower ski line of Mount Penken. Lifts also lead to the mountain from the villages of Finkenberg and Schwendau, neighboring Mayerhofen (2 km from Hippach - Ramsau). Penken peak itself (2095 m) can be reached by several modern chair lifts, and from it you can go down in different directions (up to heights of 1800-1600 m) along short but very interesting (steep and winding) red runs. On one of these routes we get to the valley at the foot of the Horberg-Gerent mountain range (1620-2278 m). Red and black slopes lead down from its top and an excellent route - good slopes, good turns...
From the valley in a new 150-seat carriage you can climb to a height of 2500 m and find yourself in the Rastgogel zone (1850-2500 m). There are several straight, but long red and blue trails that allow even beginners to run around. From Rastgogel it is easy to get to the Eggalm area (1300-2300 m). Skating is not for beginners - the tracks are red (except one), steep, with sharp turns. From the Eggalm you can directly ski down to the village of Lanersbach, which is 7 km from the Tuxer Glacier. This path (Penken-Rastgogel-Eggalm) will avoid the rather tedious bus trip to the glacier from Mayrhofen.

Ahorn (AHORN)(600-1965 m.) - an area for learning and safe skiing for children. Rising from the southern outskirts of Mayrhofen by funicular will lead to a rather extensive upland plateau. There are a number of short groomed blue pistes that are serviced by ski lifts and one chair lift. However, from the mountain straight to Mayrhofen there is a red and black track that will satisfy the most extreme skier: many steep sections, narrow spans, sharp and unexpected turns.

Hintertux Glacier (HINTERTUX)(1500-3250 m) - the skiing area on the Tuxer glacier is considered one of the most interesting in Austria, it is designed mainly for trained skiers. From a height of 1500, three lines of high-speed gondola lifts lift to a height of 3250 m in less than 30 minutes. The total amount of skiing on the glacier is about 60 km, of which 15 km are blue runs, 35 km are red and 10 km are black. Severe weather here
conditions in January, but trails for advanced and experts, not crowded. Here is the longest red run in the valley - 12km, there is a half-pipe for snowboarders (120m), a fun park. From Mayrhofen and other villages there is a bus to the lower station of Hintertux, travel time is about 30 minutes, (18 km) the bus is included in the price of the ski pass.

Zillertal Arena. Many skiers who live in Mayrhofen at least once, but visit the Zillertal Arena ski area, it consists of 160 km of tracks, combined into a circular safari and laid in very beautiful places. From the town of Zell am Ziller - a lift to a vast area that unites Zell am Ziller with the villages of Gerlos and Königsleiten, where there is a "town of snowboarders". This zone represents
It is a kind of circle where you can make a ski safari for several hours. Get to Zell am Ziller from Mayrhofen by ski bus, travel time 15-30 minutes.

Fugen and Hochfugen
These are small ski areas located at the very beginning of the valley, those who live in Mayrhofen rarely get here, but this area is also included in a single ski pass along the Ziller Valley. From the village of Fügen at the very beginning of the valley there is a lift to the Spieljoch zone (21 km of slopes) (medium skiing
difficulties). There is a fan park. From the town of Kaltenbach you can climb the combined area Hochzillertal / Hochfuegen (145 km of slopes), famous for its wide and long red and black pistes, as well as the downhill into the town, illuminated on Wednesdays and Fridays (a separate ski pass is required for evening skiing). There is a fan park.

Snowboarding in Mayrhofen
A large number of drag lifts not only does not scare riders away, but every year there are more and more of them. In 2000 Mayrhofen hosted the British Snowboard Championship. The Penken Fun Park offers a halfpipe (150 m) and a selection of jumps, as well as a large mountain range, leading to a triple jump with a 30-meter landing area. The fan park on the Hintertux has the highest half-pipe (120 m) in Europe.

The cost of the 6 day Superskipass is 193 euro adult and 88 euro- child, 13 days Superskipass worth it 356 euros for an adult and 162 euros on a child.

Resort Features

Mayrhofen has a slope that proudly bears the title of the steepest in Austria. The longest cable car is also found here.

Skiers have 159 km of slopes at their disposal. Of these, 45 km are for beginners, 94 km for intermediate and 20 km for professionals. 5.5 km - the length of the longest route.

Mayrhofen is divided into three parts: Ahorn, Penken, Tuxer. The first is recommended for beginner skiers, and the second - for those who have devoted a long time to this kind of sport. Tuxer is a glacier that is open for skiing throughout the year.

on the slope Penken the gondola is working. They say that there is the best skiing and they especially recommend the descent near one of the peaks - Penkeneuch(2095 m). You can return in several ways - on the lift or drive along the highways to the nearest towns ( Finkenberg and Hippach). From there, in a warm bus, get to your hotel. Near Finkenberg there is an interesting "red" track for experienced skiers.

Slope Ahorn inferior Penken by vastness, but it has an important advantage! The tracks of this slope are directed directly to the resort.

Mayrhofen will also be interesting for snowboarders. A special area is equipped for them - Burton Park Mayrhofen. The park has everything for a self-respecting snowboarder: “experience” zones (for those who can, who think they can and beginners), rails, springboards, two parallel tracks in the center and a lift.
