The cistern button is not pressed. Troubleshooting a non-working cistern button

The bathroom is one of the most frequently visited places in the house. Contrary to popular belief, the toilet is not the dirtiest place if properly cared for. But one of the unpleasant situations that can happen to him is the flow of the tank. This leads to the formation of plaque on the inner walls of the toilet, which is not so easy to clean. It also increases the cost of water supply, which can result in a round sum for the year. Therefore, it is important to know how to fix common problems. The article is just devoted to their elimination.

How the tank works

Before you repair something, you need to find out how the mechanism functions. This rule also applies to the push-button toilet. It is important to understand how shut-off and storage valves work. The main task of the drain tank is to supply the required amount of liquid into the bowl for washing it. The material for the manufacture of the tank can be ceramic, plastic or metal. In some cases, stainless steel is used, which lasts a very long time. There are actually two mechanisms in the toilet bowl at once. One of them is responsible for ensuring that water enters the tank itself from the supply system. Another system regulates the release of accumulated water into the base of the toilet.

When the water level in the tank reaches the required level, the supply is interrupted by a float switch. It rises to a certain height and blocks the hole from which the liquid flows. The flush mechanism on push-button toilets can be of two types. The first is called siphon. It is more often used in plastic tanks with a button that protrudes above its lid. The essence of the operation is that when you press the button on the toilet bowl, a small vacuum is created. He makes the stream move towards the bowl. The second type of mechanism is also called a pear. The essence of its functioning is that a small rubber pear closes the drain hole. As soon as the key is pressed, the locking mechanism slightly opens the hole and the water leaves.

Additionally, an overflow mechanism is provided. If the water level in the tank exceeds the allowable mark, the excess water is discharged into the toilet. Most modern toilets have two buttons. One of them is slightly larger than the other. When you press them, a different volume of water is supplied, which allows you to save consumption while meeting different needs.

Common problems

Experience shows that tank failures concern the same nodes, so it is easy to distinguish several categories. They are:

  • constant flow of water through the overflow;
  • button failure;
  • insufficient tightness of the shutter;
  • tank skew;

If a problem is discovered immediately after the installation of the toilet, then most likely a mistake was made in the process. In the case when a leak or other malfunction is detected after several months of normal operation, then one of the nodes may have failed. Each of the special cases will be considered below.

Continuous set of water

Some users observe continuous and prolonged filling of the toilet bowl, which is accompanied by a leak of water. This indicates that the container is full. One of the causes of such a problem may be a leaky gasket on the intake valve. If it bursts or loses its shape, then it is unable to firmly close the hole and filling occurs through it. The gasket may be in excellent condition, but the problem is still there. A poor fit may be due to a bent float support or improper adjustment. If the float mounting bar is metal, then it may fail due to corrosive attack. The valve itself may fail. Often this happens when assembling products with plastic fittings. It is very easy to damage it with excessive force when tightening the nut.

How to eliminate

The first step is to carefully examine the external condition of the entire mechanism. To do this, carefully remove the cover. If we are talking about modern toilets, then you may have to first unscrew the button that locks the lid in place. Now you need to slightly raise the bar on which the float is located. It usually takes a little effort to do this. If after that the water stops filling the tank, then the problem is in the wrong position of the lever. To solve the situation, it is enough to bend the lever a little so that the float is lower. Most mechanisms have a special lamb that allows you to do this.

In the case when the leak does not stop after the actions taken, it is necessary to look at the place where the lever is connected to the valve, which should close the inflow. The problem may be in the fixing pin. If so, then it is enough to replace it with ordinary copper wire. But it may be in order, so it makes sense to inspect the hole through which the inflow occurs. Perhaps it is clogged, and does not allow the stem to close it completely. If the structure is made of plastic, then deformation is possible, which distorts the hole and the stem cannot move freely in it. If it was not possible to eliminate the deformation by loosening, then the valve will have to be replaced.

A leaky gasket could be the cause of the leak. This can be checked by pressing the stem harder against the hole. If the leak has stopped, then it makes sense to replace the gasket with a new one. In some versions of modern locking mechanisms, the valve is in a plastic casing, so it cannot be freely inspected. This can be done by completely dismantling the node. To test it according to the above scheme, it is enough to hold it over the tank with the hose connected.

Bolt loosening

In modern toilet bowls, the tank is located directly on the bowl, there is no pipe between them that connects them. The exception is those options in which the tank is mounted in a false wall. The tank is fixed to the bowl with bolts. Over time, they can loosen or fail due to rust. In this case, the tightness of the junction node is violated, and water can flow onto the floor through the gap. Such a leak can be difficult to notice, because water flows out in small portions.

What to do with bolts

To resolve the issue that arises from the bolts, you must first turn off the water supply. Do not immediately empty the tank, you must carefully examine the place where the leak is observed. After that, the tank is emptied and a complete set of bolts is purchased. It makes no sense to change only one, because after a short time others may be damaged. Bolts are unscrewed. You should be extremely careful not to damage the bowl and tank, especially if they are made of ceramic. If the bolts are metal, then they can be pre-treated with a special compound that will remove rust and allow you to unscrew the nuts without much difficulty.

The head of the bolt is inside the tank, so you have to remove the valves to get to them. With one key, you need to hold the head so that it does not scroll. The tank is removed from its place and the junction is cleaned of rust. The gum, if any, is carefully examined. When assembling the tank, it is advisable to coat it with silicone sealant. Rubber gaskets that are under the bolt heads are also replaced with new ones. The tank must be set absolutely level, so that there are no problems due to skew. The bolts are tightened with special care so that they do not split the toilet bowl and the tank itself.

Note! The problem may not be in the bolts themselves that attach the tank to the toilet, but in the sealing gum that is located at the junction. Therefore, it is advisable to replace the rubber bands together with the bolts, and vice versa.

locking bulb

The valve of the locking mechanism through which the flow of water into the tank is carried out may be in order, but water sometimes leaks anyway. The problem may lie in the pear, which is located on the locking hole between the tank and the toilet bowl. Over time, from exposure to water, the pear can lose its elasticity and become too stiff. It is no longer able to take the shape of the hole and leakage occurs. It is not possible to restore such an element, so it is better to completely replace it. When buying, it is better to take one that has a slight rigidity. It is she who will serve in the tank longer than others. Usually the pear has a thread, thanks to which it is screwed onto the stem. Sometimes it can be sold assembled with a stock. If at the moment it is not possible to buy a pear for the toilet cistern, you can go for a trick and tie a small load to the rod, which will put pressure on it, increasing the area of contact with the cistern opening.

Rod, locking mechanism

One of the troubles that can arise with a modern toilet is that the shutter button is not pressed. This is usually due to the fact that the traction is damaged. Often the locking mechanism itself fails. They cannot be restored, so you will have to replace part or all of the locking mechanism. Before you buy a ready-made one in a store, you need to know which one was exactly used, because there are many types of them. It is necessary to de-energize the toilet bowl, drain the water from it and remove it by unscrewing the bolts. The supply hose is unscrewed, as well as the nut that fixes the hose fitting. At the bottom of the tank there is a plastic nut that holds the locking mechanism. It must be unscrewed and all components of the locking mechanism removed.

It will serve as a model for the purchase of a similar one. It is better to take it with you to the store to check all the details. Often the new mechanism may be slightly longer than the previous one and will not fit in the tank. Some universal kits have special adjustment bars that make it possible to increase or decrease the distance from the release button to the base of the locking mechanism for the tank. When assembling, it is important to install all the gaskets in their place and, if necessary, process the joints with silicone.

Other possible breakdowns

The cause of the leak from the tank may be cracks in the body of the tank. They appear when used incorrectly. For example, you can move the tank back strongly while sitting on the toilet. Damage appears when the cistern and toilet bowl are tightly tightened with bolts. If such a problem is observed, then it is necessary to dismantle the tank, clean it well and dry it. After that, all cracks in the tank are covered with high-quality sealant. After it hardens, you can install the container on the toilet. If the leak is no longer observed, then it can be operated. The tank may need to be replaced.

Periodically it is necessary to carry out maintenance of the tank so that it lasts longer. It is important to regularly remove rust and plaque from it, which accumulate due to poor-quality tap water. To do this, you can use special cleaning products. But you should be careful, because some of them have a negative effect on the rubber components of the locking mechanism. It is important that there are no sudden drops in temperature in the toilet room, at which the water in the tank and toilet will freeze. This can lead to damage not only to the mechanism, but also to the toilet bowl. For more tank repair tips, watch the video below.

Conclusion

If in the process of repairing a tank with a button it is necessary to replace the entire mechanism, then for premium toilet bowls the price per set can reach 4 thousand rubles. You should be prepared for this when purchasing expensive plumbing. The article lists several main reasons that lead to leaks. Most often, they can be eliminated independently using improvised means. When using cistern wire, select non-ferrous samples rather than steel. Since the latter will become an additional source of rust in the tank.

For a comfortable stay of a person, water supply and lighting of the room are necessary, as well as properly working plumbing devices connected to the sewer system. One of the most popular plumbing fixtures are the toilet and cistern. Currently, cisterns are most often equipped with buttons that are responsible for the smooth descent of water into the toilet. The toilet bowl button becomes unusable over time or requires repair. How to do this, read on.

Tank device with a button

The drain tank is a container that stores water for draining. For operation, the tank is equipped with elements. Toilet cistern device with button:

  1. drain mechanism. The device connected to the button is responsible for draining the water. In the lower part, the drain mechanism is equipped with a sealed membrane that protects against the formation of water leakage into the toilet bowl;

The drain mechanism can be equipped with:

  • single button. Descent of water occurs at the touch of a button. In this case, all the liquid from the tank enters the toilet;

  • dual mode button. The button with several modes of operation is divided into two parts: small and large. When using a smaller part, half of the liquid in the tank gets into the toilet. When the water is drained by the greater part of the button, the water is drained completely.

Using a button with two operating modes allows you to save cold water.

  1. filling valve responsible for the collection of water in the tank. The filling mechanism is equipped with a float that regulates the level of water in the tank. The mechanism may have:
    • lateral water supply. Most often found in Russian-made cisterns. A distinctive feature of the mechanism is the formation of noise when collecting water;

  • bottom water supply. When installing a valve with a bottom connection, it is important to achieve complete tightness of the connection.

All fittings installed in are interconnected. After pressing the button, the water is drained. In this case, the float of the filling valve sinks to the bottom of the tank and opens the inlet valve. Water begins to flow from the water supply and raise the float to the set level. When the container is full, the inlet valve will be automatically closed.

Button repair

The fittings of the tank may become unusable for the following reasons:

  • use of low-quality mechanisms. Professional plumbers recommend installing cistern fittings made by companies such as Cersanit, Vidima, Jika;
  • natural wear. Any device is designed for a certain number of years of use or number of flush cycles;
  • mechanical damage. Careless use may cause damage.

Button malfunctions and solutions

The most common button failures are:

  • "sticking" of the button, that is, the flushing of water occurs only after repeatedly pressing the descender;
  • failure of the button, that is, the button mechanism descends into the capacity of the drain tank.

Elimination of sticking

If the water is flushed after repeatedly pressing the button, then the malfunction is related to the rod connecting the drain device and the drain mechanism.

To fix the problem, you need:

  1. block the flow of water into the tank;
  2. remove the tank cover. To do this, first of all, the inside of the button is removed, and then the retaining ring located on the button is unscrewed counterclockwise and removed;

  1. the button is removed;

  1. stock is being repaired;
  2. the system is assembled in reverse order.

The stem is made of plastic. Therefore, repairs most often come down to a complete replacement of the product. For temporary troubleshooting, the stem can be replaced with wire.

Elimination of failure

If the toilet cistern button fails, then the causes of the breakdown may be:

  • incorrect setting of the drain device (insufficient button height selected);
  • failure of the spring that returns the button to its original position. The problem is solved by replacing the spring.

To set up the drain mechanism, you must:

  1. shut off the water supply to the container and completely drain the remaining liquid;
  2. remove the drain mechanism (the whole turns to the left until it clicks);
  3. press the clamps securing the glass;
  4. increase height;

  1. install the valve and cover;
  2. check if the problem is resolved and repeat the procedure if necessary.

How to adjust the drain mechanism is shown in the video.

Button Replacement

If the listed actions do not help to eliminate the malfunction of the tank trigger, then the drain button needs to be replaced. You can work in the following way:

  1. remove the button, according to the scheme described in detail above;
  2. disconnect the button from the exhaust valve;
  3. install a new device.

The new toilet button must fully match the broken device. Otherwise, the drain valve will need to be replaced.

All troubleshooting work on the button must be done very carefully so as not to damage the rest of the fittings. If it is not possible to eliminate the breakdown on your own, then it is more expedient to seek help from specialists.

Don't want to pay for plumbing services? Do you think you are capable of repairing a toilet bowl with your own hands? Then get to work!

The most common cause of plumbing failure is gasket wear. Its replacement is fairly quick. The service life of the gasket directly depends on the quality of the water in the system. Therefore, before starting work, take care of the purity of the incoming water by installing coarse and fine filters. If the breakdown is more complicated, the first thing to do is to study the device of the plumbing fixture.

The device consists of a bowl and a drain tank. The latter is the most vulnerable element. The operation of the tank is based on the principle of a water seal. It includes a system of levers, a float and a seal. After pressing the button, the water is drained into the thicket, then the water begins to flow into the tank until it reaches the desired level and the shut-off valve is triggered.

The device of various models of drain tanks is different. For example, the lid can simply lie on the tank, while the flush button is on top. Repairing the toilet cistern begins with the fact that you disconnect the button with your own hands. To do this, remove the decorative ring by twisting it counterclockwise or gently prying it off. If the cover is fixed, unscrew the fasteners.

If the plumbing fixture has a two-button drain system, press both buttons alternately and unscrew the ring until it detaches.

The most common breakdowns:

  • Water flows into the drain tank continuously.
  • The drain button does not work.
  • Drainage of water is made after repeated pressing of the button.
  • Noise is heard while filling the tank.
  • The toilet is leaking.

How to repair a cistern with a flush button

The reason for the continuous draining of water is most often the displacement of the float lever. All that is required of you is to return it to its original position. As a rule, the float arm is placed 2.5 cm below the pipe inlet.

A variant is possible in which the float is damaged or it has become too heavy. The main stages of repairing the toilet cistern in this case:

We take out the float and pour water out of it;
- remove the hole and attach the float to its original place. You can close the hole with the help of heated plastic, or by wrapping the float with a plastic bag.

However, this measure is temporary. In the future, it is recommended to purchase a new float and replace it.

If water flows into the toilet constantly, or flushing is performed only after a few presses of the button, the siphon membrane should be replaced. It is done like this:

We put a crossbar on the tank lid and tie a float lever to it;
- drain water from the tank;
- unscrew the fixing nut connecting the tank with the flush;
- after loosening the nut, take out the siphon;
- remove the damaged membrane and put a new one in its place, after which we install the fittings in the reverse order.

If it stopped working flush button, you need to repair the damaged traction. To do this, remove the faulty element and make a new one from a piece of wire. In the future, it can be replaced with a new thrust, which will ensure the conditions for the normal functioning of the toilet bowl for a long time.

The leakage of the plumbing fixture is eliminated by replacing the gasket membrane and fixing the loose fasteners.

If the tank fills too noisily, you can install a silencer. This is done as follows: we install a piece of plastic flexible pipe at the entrance to the float valve vertically relative to the water surface, while the lower end of the pipe is under water. If such a silencer did not help, we put a stabilizing valve that will regulate the flow of water into the drain tank.

In some cases, a complete replacement of the drain mechanism may be required.

How to raise the water level in the tank

If the water in the plumbing fixture does not drain, you should check its level in the tank, it should be at the top mark. If the level is lower, adjust the angle of the float valve lever. This can be done with a screwdriver by tightening the adjusting screw. If the valve is made of brass, it is necessary to slightly bend the float lever up, loosen the nut and then slightly move the mount up.

How to make the descent of the drain smooth

Flushing to the toilet should be smooth. If this is not the case, check the release lever mounting and tighten if necessary. The lever should be held in place by a grub screw.

How to replace the drain mechanism

After the water supply is shut off, turn off the supply hose and remove the top cover. We are dismantling the tank.

Scheme of operation of the drain tank

We unscrew the fixing bolts with which the tank is attached to the bowl. The complexity of this operation lies in the fact that as a result of prolonged contact with water, the bolts can rust. You should stock up on a set of new bolts in advance.

We remove the water supply tap and dismantle the drain fittings. Next, we install a new drain system and install the tank on the bowl using new mounting bolts. When installing the tank, the gasket (O-ring) must be replaced.

In order to achieve high tightness of the toilet bowl during the repair, silicone should be additionally used. The drain tank and the bowl are interconnected with studs. Make sure the studs are stainless steel. If, 5-7 months after the installation of the plumbing fixture, the sealing ring becomes thinner, the studs should be slightly tightened.

1 - drain valve; 2 - ball valve; 3 - filling hose; 4 - overflow pipe; 5 - float suspension rod; 6 - float

After the drain system is installed, tighten the sealing washer on the water supply hose. This must be done very carefully, and the washer should not be overtightened. One turn of the wrench is enough. Otherwise, you can push through the rubber of the gasket or completely break the threads on the tap, which will entail re-repair of the drain tank with the replacement of the fitting.

Toilet bowl repair

Problems with the toilet bowl are quite rare. They are caused by improper fixation of the structure to the wall or floor. If a puddle appears near the plumbing fixture, check whether the pear fits snugly and whether the seat is damaged by corrosion. If necessary, replace the worn gasket, fix the nut in the warp of the overflow (to do this, you will have to remove the tank), replace the worn cuff.

As long as the toilet bowl works properly, we take it for granted. But any breakdown of this simple device can create serious problems. The continuous sound of running water keeps me awake. If you have a water meter installed, constantly flowing water from the tank will result in an increase in payment for cold water. The risk of flooding the neighbors living below you is also high. Fortunately, it's not difficult. Anyone can fix the breakdown or at least temporarily localize the problem before the arrival of a plumber.

Features of breakdowns and repairs depend on the model of the cistern. But there are mechanisms common to all models. We will look at the most common models and the most common problems.

Important! Before you begin any repair work on the drain tank, shut off the water supply through the inlet pipe.

1 type. Water does not enter the tank

The most common cause of this problem is clogging of the narrowest part of the valve. To solve the problem, release all the water from the tank and unscrew the valve along with the lever and float. You will see a narrow hole through which water enters the tank. Clean it with a needle or thin wire.

Slightly unscrew the valve on the inlet pipe and flush out the debris. If water flows freely, close the valve and install the valve with lever and float back.

2 type. Water flows all the time

Regardless of the model, the drain tank is equipped with a system for accumulating and draining water. If your water does not fill the tank, flows into the toilet, or, having filled the tank, overflows over the top, problems have arisen in one of the components of this system.

Consider the problem when the pear is not tight enough to the drain hole. To solve it, you need to weight the pear, how to do it - watch the video:

Troubleshooting a cistern with a button

When you press the cistern button, water flows into the toilet bowl. The float after the descent of the water sinks to the bottom. At this time, the valve that closes the water inlet is also lowered. Water enters the tank, the float gradually rises, setting the lever in motion. Having risen to a certain height, the float with the lever takes a position when the valve tightly closes the opening of the pipe.

The cover with one button is removed in the following order:

  • Loosen the retaining ring around the button. Don't push too hard - the rings are mostly made of plastic and can break.
  • Remove the cover and start repairing.

Advice! Be extremely careful when removing the reservoir cap. If you damage it, it will be extremely difficult to buy a new one.

If water does not stop collecting in the tank, one of two problems may be the cause.

Drain mechanism with a button is the most common

If the bolts holding the pear seat are destroyed, they must be changed.

Water from the tank flows through the overflow

The way to solve the problem will depend on the cause of its occurrence.

  • If the adjustment of the float arm does not work, check the integrity of the stud that holds it. Replace damaged pin with copper wire of the same thickness. Do not use steel wire, it is prone to corrosion.
  • If the pin hole in the plastic valve has changed shape from round to oval and is worn, remove the valve. Take it to the store as a sample size and model, buy a new valve and install it.

Repair of a drain tank with two buttons

Tanks with two buttons are made in order to be able to use two drain modes - full and economical. The fittings in such tanks are equipped with a membrane drain valve. If you press the economy mode button, the lever does not allow the valve cover to fall all the way down, and water is partially consumed.

Repair of a drain tank with a lower water supply

The most commonly used side water supply to the drain tank. But the branch pipe sticking out from the side does not look aesthetically pleasing. In order to hide the tubes, the bottom water supply method is used. This method is justified if the area of \u200b\u200bthe room simply does not allow the installation of a tank with a side supply.

Important! When with a lower supply, carefully check the reliability and tightness of the connections. Leaks in these areas are the most common problem.

There are several problems that are typical for tanks with a lower water supply:

  • The pressure in the water supply system is too low, and water constantly flows into the tank. This problem occurs if a diaphragm filling valve is installed. If the water pressure in the system is less than 0.05 MPa, it simply does not work. The best way out of the situation is to replace the diaphragm valve with a rod valve, the operation of which does not depend on water pressure.
  • The cause of problems with draining water or filling the tank may be hidden in the wrong position. None of its elements should touch the walls of the tank. Carefully inspect the mechanism and adjust its position.
  • Water through the overflow hole enters the toilet bowl if the height of the float position is incorrectly adjusted or violated. Tighten the adjusting screw and lower the float.

In case of serious damage to the drain tank, it is necessary to call a plumber. You may need to change the entire trigger valve. But at least for a while, you can fix most of the problems in this simple mechanism yourself.

Modern plumbing fixtures are fairly reliable equipment. But, like any technical device, sooner or later they can also fail. And often it happens at the most inopportune moment. For example, when you come home from work in the evening, you suddenly discover a leak in the toilet bowl.

What to do? It's too late to call a plumber. Yes, and usually there is no need, because most of the malfunctions that lead to tank leaks can be dealt with on their own, saving on the wages of the master.

But first you need to diagnose, determine the causes of the problem. First of all, for this it is necessary to remove the lid from the storage tank of the toilet bowl.

The most common design of the modern one is the "compact", which involves installing the tank directly on the toilet. Control mechanisms were originally produced in two types: a ball attached to a retractable rod attached to - a rubber stopper blocking the drain hole and a lever located on the side of the container.

Today, almost all manufacturers have switched to the production of push-button models of tanks. There are two main types of these modifications:

  • with one button;
  • with two buttons or one button divided into segments.

The second variation involves a slightly more complex design of the drain process control valve., but it pays off quite quickly due to the possibility of choosing one of the modes:

  • when one button is pressed, the tank is completely emptied;
  • when activated, the second one is partial, which allows you to significantly save on water consumption.

You can learn more about the principle of operation and from the materials of our website.

How to open (remove the cover)?

Currently, modifications are being made that allow removing the cover without any additional operations. The buttons in them are equipped with rods, transmitting force to the control elements of the tank fittings.

But most plumbing manufacturers continue to produce models that require some manipulation to remove the cover.

To remove the cover in one-button modifications it is necessary to moderately press on the ring surrounding the button and turn it in the opposite direction to the clockwise direction.

If this operation does not succeed immediately, you should drop a couple of drops of any liquid oil or resort to using a screwdriver, pressing it with the tip on the ring and turning it. After the ring has been torn off, it is usually easily unscrewed by hand.

Next, you should carefully move the cover to a position perpendicular to its normal position, and carefully release the button block from the plastic clothespins. After that, you can remove the lid from the tank and put aside.

How to disassemble (open) a toilet cistern with a button for subsequent repair with your own hands - find out from a short video:

To remove a cover equipped with a two-button block, it is usually necessary it is enough to press any button, after which a technological groove will become available on the adjacent button. It remains to tuck this button and remove it, and then dismantle the second one. Then unscrew the fixing screw and remove the cover.

Major breakdowns and repair methods

Before repairing a toilet bowl with a button, it is important to understand what exactly the problem arose. Regardless of the type of execution of the toilet bowl drain, There are three main malfunctions in the operation of this plumbing equipment:

  • into the sewer system or inside the premises;
  • inability to control the drain mechanism.

These malfunctions can occur for various reasons., depending on which it is decided how to fix the toilet flush tank with a button:

  1. Loose fit of the pear (plug) to the drain hole. You can minimize the likelihood of such a situation by initially purchasing reliable plumbing fittings from well-known manufacturers.

    Diagnostics is carried out as follows: after removing the cover, an additional force is applied to the plug stem, pressing it against the drain hole. If the leak is eliminated, you can correct the situation, slightly weighting the cork by hanging an additional load on the rod in the form of stainless metal nuts, for example.

    If the leak does not stop, then replace the plug or clean the surface of the drain hole from deposits arising during operation (especially when using too hard water).

  2. Also possible malfunction of the mechanism that regulates the flow of water into the tank. In this case, the constantly incoming water is discharged into the sewer system through the overflow pipe.

    In this case, it is necessary pay attention to the integrity of the structural elements of the reinforcement: rods, fasteners, float, inlet valve and, if necessary, replace / repair them. Or simply adjust the position of the float, and then securely fix it.

  3. Leaking inside the room is caused by two reasons: violation of the integrity of the tank itself or a loose fit at the place of threaded connections - at the junction of the tank with the toilet bowl or the outlet of the overflow pipe.

    Sometimes it is enough to tighten a loose connection, but more often it appears the need to replace rubber gaskets.

  4. Lack or insufficient level of water pressure at the inlet to the tank usually caused by a clogged intake valve. To avoid this situation, it is necessary to install a water filter before the point of connection to the water supply system.

    If such a nuisance occurs, you should unscrew the valve, after releasing all the water from the tank and closing the inlet valve. Then clean the valve inlet a ton of wire or a sewing needle and rinse under running water.

Specific malfunctions of two-button models

To implement the principle of full / partial drain, the fittings in two-button tank models are equipped with a diaphragm valve. By pressing the economy drain button the lever prevents the valve cover from lowering to the lower position, which ensures partial emptying of the tank.

The main malfunctions of two-button tanks are:

  1. DC water flow. Occurs as a result of wear of the locking membrane. To fix this problem, the membrane itself needs to be replaced.
  2. The sinking of the control buttons in the drain tank, which is the most common defect, usually manifested after a certain period of operation of the equipment due to wear. To avoid this situation, you should not apply excessive force when pressing the buttons. You can fix the problem by removing the lid from the tank and returning the buttons to their normal position.
  3. When the buttons are activated, nothing happens, that is, the water remains in the tank. The cause of this problem is usually a breakdown of the elements of the lever mechanism or their separation. How to repair a drain tank with a button in this case? You can fix the situation by fixing the hooks in the correct position or by replacing broken parts.

How to regulate the water supply yourself?

The filling level of the toilet tank is regulated in the same way in all modifications - by setting the correct position of the float. Its correct position is considered to be in which the flow of water into the tank completely stops when it reaches a level that is several centimeters short of the edge of the tank.

Depending on the valve design, adjustment is carried out by bending the brass rod, shifting the float along the plastic guide with subsequent fastening (if it is horizontal) or by turning the adjusting screw clockwise (if necessary, reduce the filling level) or counterclockwise (if necessary, reduce the maximum level) - for modifications with a vertical float layout.

Also, the filling level of the tank is affected by overflow tube position. Its upper edge should be located one or two centimeters above the water level in a completely filled tank.

To adjust the height of the drain valve in one-button models of toilet bowls, after dismantling the control button and removing the cover, move the control rod to the desired position, and then securely fasten it.

In two-button modifications of such rods, there are two. To adjust the toilet flush tank with two buttons, remember that one is responsible for the implementation of a complete drain, the second activates the partial drain mechanism.

How to put everything back?

To put the toilet cistern back together, the following operations must be carried out:

  • fix the fittings responsible for filling / draining water, using, where necessary, rubber gaskets;
  • adjust the position of the float and drain valve;
  • cover the tank with a lid;
  • screw the push-button glass (in models with one button) or tighten the fixing screw and lock the control buttons - in two-button versions.

As can be seen from the above, there is nothing complicated in self-installation, repair and adjustment of toilet flush cisterns with a button. And for most people with at least some technical skills, it will not be difficult to carry out these procedures on their own, saving on calling a plumber.
