How old is the singer Jasmine Thompson. Jasmine Thompson: "I choose songs that I really have a connection with

Jasmine Thompson, a 15-year-old London-based Chinese-English singer, rose to prominence through YouTube, where she posted covers of popular songs recorded at home. She now has over 2 million subscribers on her channel, her cover of the hit "Ain't Nobody" has amassed 217 million views, and the video for the track "Sun Goes Down" has 186 million. The young star is now also successfully performing "in real life", preparing a world tour. The other day, the owner of the voice, which many refer to as "sparkling" and "crystal", came to Moscow. We met with Jasmine and talked with her about creativity, success and ordinary life.

This is your first visit to Moscow. How are the impressions?

I really like it, very cool. When I arrived, it was snowing and it was very beautiful. I last saw snow three years ago, so it was exciting. I didn’t have time to see much, because I’m always in the car or in the studios, but I would like to return here. See Red Square and all that.

Tell us how your music career started?

When I was little, music was always around me, always playing in our car. My family is very musical, my parents were very fond of music. At the age of eight, I started taking voice and piano lessons, and when I was ten, I discovered YouTube and watched a lot of videos there. My mom and I got the idea to record covers of songs that I like, which is what we started doing. I mean, we just decided to share my recordings on YouTube. That's how I got fans.

Is your mother still involved in your creative activities? And how does she feel about how your life has changed lately, because you have become famous?

Mom is still with me everywhere. She is here now. It's good that my mother is nearby, because I'm still small. It's nice when you always have a piece of home with you. I would say the main thing that has changed is that I spend all my time in music and traveling. Actually, every day I work on my music, its promotion or creation. And I also travel a lot. So, rather, the people remained the same, but my life has completely changed.

Have you dreamed of becoming famous? Could you imagine that you would achieve such success?

When I was younger, I never thought about anything like that. Music has always been like a very big hobby for me. And I didn't expect to be famous person or something like that - I just like making music. I started doing it just for fun, in general.

Was it difficult to get used to performing in front of a live audience?

At first it was very scary. For YouTube, you just sing in front of the camera, you can do as many takes as you want, and it doesn't matter if you suddenly make a mistake. On stage, everyone is looking at you, and sometimes I even feel on the verge of fainting. (smiles). At first, going on stage, knowing that a lot of people would be looking at you, was really scary. But as soon as I started singing, everything went back to normal. Time after time it got easier, and now I can safely go out and sing.

How do you interact with your fans? What does this mean to you?

I try to spend at least an hour a day interacting with my followers on Twitter and Instagram. Some of them have been following me since I was ten years old, that is, for about five years, and this is already like my second family. So I try to give them as much time as possible.

How do you choose a song to cover?

What kind of music do you listen to? What is your favorite song at the moment?

My favorite song right now is Louis The Child's "It's Strange". As for music in general, I listen to everything. musical styles. This is such a mix of everything - the same Justin Bieber, that is, such a pop mainstream, calm music, for example, piano ballads ... There is also such an artist Tom Rosenthal. I now constantly listen to his album, he is on repeat for me. Also Twenty One Pilots is one of my favorite bands at the moment.

Tell us about your mini-album “Adore”. What was the inspiration for its creation?

In general, the song “Adore” is about my attitude to music. This is also my first official single. I wanted to dedicate it to music. I'm still very young and I haven't had my first love yet. So this song is turned to music, because I have been in love with it since childhood. And the whole album is a lot of different messages. About how to be more confident, how to get outside, and something else that I face all the time - how to travel and at the same time keep in touch with family and friends, keep in touch with people. So this album is a mixture of emotions about love, friends and loved ones, and about being happy.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I spend a lot of time with friends. Or watch Netflix (laughs).

What plans do you have for the future?

Just keep making music for the rest of your life. Travel with your friends, with your team. See the world as much as possible.

Would you like to somehow do a big world tour and maybe visit Russia again?

Yes, definitely, I would love to! I would really like a big tour. I love traveling so much, and I would very much like to return to Russia, see both St. Petersburg and Moscow ... See more here. Because this time I have only three days and I really want to come back and do a live concert.

Great! Thank you very much!

(laughs) Thank you very much!

Notes

Excerpt characterizing Thompson, Jasmine

The princess glanced at her watch and, noticing that she had already missed five minutes of the time that she was supposed to use for playing the clavichord, with a frightened look went into the sofa. Between 12 and 2 o'clock, in accordance with the routine of the day, the prince rested, and the princess played the clavichord.

The gray-haired valet sat dozing and listening to the prince's snoring in the huge study. From the far side of the house, behind the closed doors, the difficult passages of Dussek's sonata repeated twenty times were heard.
At this time, a carriage and a britzka drove up to the porch, and Prince Andrei got out of the carriage, dropped off his little wife and let her go ahead. Gray-haired Tikhon, in a wig, leaning out of the waiter's door, reported in a whisper that the prince was resting, and hastily closed the door. Tikhon knew that neither the arrival of his son nor any unusual events should have disturbed the order of the day. Prince Andrei, apparently, knew this as well as Tikhon; he looked at his watch, as if to believe that his father's habits had not changed during the time in which he had not seen him, and, making sure that they had not changed, he turned to his wife:
He will be up in twenty minutes. Let's go to Princess Mary, - he said.
The little princess grew fat during this time, but her eyes and short lip with a mustache and a smile rose just as merrily and sweetly when she spoke.
- Mais c "est un palais," she said to her husband, looking around, with the expression with which they say praises to the owner of the ball. - Allons, vite, vite! ... [Yes, this is a palace! - Let's go faster, faster! ...] - She , looking around, smiled at Tikhon, and her husband, and the waiter who saw them off.
- C "est Marieie qui s" exerce? Allons doucement, il faut la surprendre. [Is Marie exercising? Hush, let's take her by surprise.]
Prince Andrei followed her with a courteous and melancholy expression.
“You have grown old, Tikhon,” he said, passing by, to the old man who was kissing his hand.
In front of a room in which the clavichords were heard, a pretty blond Frenchwoman jumped out of a side door.
M lle Bourienne seemed maddened with delight.
- Ah! quel bonheur pour la princesse,” she said. – Enfin! Il faut que je la previenne. [Oh, what a joy for the princess! Finally! I need to warn her.]
- Non, non, de grace ... Vous etes m lle Bourienne, je vous connais deja par l "amitie que vous porte ma belle soeur," the princess said, kissing the Frenchwoman. "Elle ne nous attend ras? [No, no, please ... You are Mamselle Bourienne; I already know you by the friendship that my daughter-in-law has for you. She is not expecting us?]
They went up to the door of the divan, from which a repeated passage was heard again and again. Prince Andrei stopped and grimaced, as if expecting something unpleasant.
The princess entered. The passage broke off in the middle; there was a cry, the heavy feet of Princess Marya, and the sound of kisses. When Prince Andrei entered, the princess and the princess, who had only seen each other for a short time during the wedding of Prince Andrei, clasped their hands, pressed their lips tightly to the places they had hit in the first minute. M lle Bourienne stood beside them, her hands pressed to her heart, smiling devoutly, apparently as ready to cry as to laugh.
Prince Andrei shrugged his shoulders and grimaced, as music lovers frown when they hear a false note. Both women released each other; then again, as if afraid of being late, they grabbed each other's hands, began to kiss and tear off their hands, and then again began to kiss each other on the face, and quite unexpectedly for Prince Andrei, both began to cry and began to kiss again. M lle Bourienne also began to cry. Prince Andrei was obviously embarrassed; but it seemed so natural to the two women that they wept; they did not seem to imagine that this meeting could have taken place otherwise.
- Ah! chere!…Ah! Marieie!…” both women suddenly spoke and laughed. - J "ai reve сette nuit ... - Vous ne nous attendez donc pas? ... Ah! Marieie, vous avez maigri ... - Et vous avez repris ... [Ah, dear! ... Ah, Marie! ... - And I saw it in a dream. - So you weren't expecting us?… Ah, Marie, you've lost so much weight.
- J "ai tout de suite reconnu madame la princesse, [I immediately recognized the princess,]" inserted m lle Bourienne.
“Et moi qui ne me doutais pas!…” exclaimed Princess Mary. - Ah! Andre, je ne vous voyais pas. [I had no idea!… Ah, Andre, I didn't even see you.]
Prince Andrei kissed his sister hand in hand and told her that she was the same pleurienicheuse, [crybaby,] as she always was. Princess Marya turned to her brother, and through her tears the loving, warm and meek look of her beautiful, large, radiant eyes at that moment rested on the face of Prince Andrei.
The princess spoke incessantly. The short upper lip with the mustache flew down for a moment, touched, where necessary, to the ruddy lower lip, and a smile shining with teeth and eyes opened again. The princess told an incident that had happened to them on Spassky Hill, which threatened her with danger in her position, and immediately after that she reported that she had left all her dresses in Petersburg and that God knows what would go around here, and that Andrei had completely changed, and that Kitty Odyntsova married an old man, and that there is a groom for Princess Marya pour tout de bon, [quite serious,] but that we will talk about this later. Princess Mary still silently looked at her brother, and in her beautiful eyes there was both love and sadness. It was evident that her own train of thought had now been established in her, independent of the speeches of her daughter-in-law. In the middle of her story about the last holiday in Petersburg, she turned to her brother:
– And you are definitely going to war, Andre? oia said with a sigh.
Lise winced too.
“Even tomorrow,” answered the brother.
- II m "abandonne ici, et Du sait pourquoi, quand il aur pu avoir de l" advancement ... [He leaves me here, and God knows why, then how could he get a promotion ...]
Princess Mary did not listen to the end and, continuing the thread of her thoughts, she turned to her daughter-in-law, pointing with affectionate eyes at her stomach:
- Maybe? - she said.
The face of the princess changed. She sighed.
“Yeah, probably,” she said. – Ah! It's very scary…
Lisa's lip drooped. She brought her face close to that of her sister-in-law, and suddenly burst into tears again.
“She needs to rest,” said Prince Andrei, wincing. Isn't it, Lisa? Take her to you, and I will go to the father. What is he, all the same?
- The same, the same; I don’t know about your eyes,” the princess answered joyfully.
- And the same hours, and walks along the alleys? Machine? Prince Andrei asked with a barely perceptible smile, showing that despite all his love and respect for his father, he understood his weaknesses.
“The same watch and machine, still mathematics and my geometry lessons,” Princess Mary answered joyfully, as if her geometry lessons were one of the most joyful impressions of her life.
When the twenty minutes that were needed for the time for the old prince to get up had passed, Tikhon came to call the young prince to his father. The old man made an exception in his way of life in honor of the arrival of his son: he ordered to let him into his half while dressing before dinner. The prince walked in the old way, in a caftan and powder. And while Prince Andrei (not with that peevish expression and manners that he put on himself in the living rooms, but with that animated face that he had when he talked with Pierre) was entering his father, the old man was sitting in the dressing room on a wide, morocco upholstered armchair, in a powder-manufacturer, leaving his head in Tikhon's hands.
- BUT! Warrior! Do you want to conquer Bonaparte? - said the old man and shook his powdered head, as much as the braided braid, which was in the hands of Tikhon, allowed. - At least take it well for him, otherwise he will soon write us down as his subjects. - Great! And he stuck out his cheek.
The old man was in good spirits after his afternoon nap. (He said that after dinner a silver dream, and before dinner a golden one.) He joyfully looked sideways at his son from under his thick overhanging eyebrows. Prince Andrei came up and kissed his father in the place indicated by him. He did not respond to his father's favorite topic of conversation - bantering with the current military people, and especially Bonaparte.
“Yes, I came to you, father, and with a pregnant wife,” said Prince Andrei, following with animated and respectful eyes the movement of every feature of his father’s face. - How is your health?
- Unhealthy, brother, there are only fools and lechers, and you know me: from morning to evening busy, temperate, well, healthy.
“Thank God,” said the son, smiling.
“God has nothing to do with it. Well, tell me, - he continued, returning to his favorite horse, - how the Germans taught you to fight Bonaparte according to your new science, called strategy, taught.
Prince Andrew smiled.
“Let me come to my senses, father,” he said with a smile that showed that his father’s weaknesses did not prevent him from respecting and loving him. “Because I haven’t settled in yet.
"You're lying, you're lying," the old man shouted, shaking his pigtail to see if it was tightly braided, and grabbing his son by the arm. The house for your wife is ready. Princess Marya will bring her and show her, and talk from three boxes. It's their mother's business. I'm glad for her. Sit and tell. I understand Michelson's army, Tolstoy too... one-time landing... What will the southern army do? Prussia, neutrality... I know that. Austria what? - he said, getting up from his chair and walking around the room with Tikhon running around and handing out pieces of clothing. Sweden what? How will Pomerania be crossed?
