Structurally, the NS-16 machine is mounted on a cast plate 1, on which stand 2 with rail 3 is fixed.

It moves along the rack with the help of the rack and pinion shaft 11 of the traverse 4. The brake bar 7 prevents spontaneous movement of the traverse along the rack, the clamp of which is regulated by the screw 8. The spindle 23 with its lower end is fixed through the bearings in the quill 24 with the help of a nut 25 (with left-hand thread), a ring 26 and an oil seal 27. The upper splined end of the spindle 23 through the sleeve 21 is connected to the pulley 20 of the belt drive. The sleeve 21 is mounted for rotation through the bearings in the cup 22, rigidly fixed on the traverse 4.

The quill 24 under the influence of the gear shaft 16 through the handles 17 moves in the traverse. The displacement value is reported on the limb 18. The return of the quill 24 with the spindle to the upper position is carried out under the influence of the spring 15, which is connected with the shaft by the gear 16 with its inner end, and with the outer end with the cover 14, which closes through the key on the traverse 4.

From the electric motor, using a V-belt transmission through a five-speed pulley, the machine spindle connected to it by means of keys (and sliding along them) is driven into rotation.
