Massive parquet is divided into grades, depending on the characteristics of the wood. When sorting, the uniformity of the pattern, the differences in shade, the number of knots and the presence of cracks are taken into account. There are several types of sawing wood: radial, tangential and mixed. But even without selection for cutting, a massive oak board is divided into the following grades:
- Premium;
- Select;
- Natur;
- Rustic.
Keep in mind that there are major differences between varieties, but each company uses its own sorting method in many cases, and the names of some varieties may differ, as well as the requirements for one or another variety. So you can meet varieties: classic, avant-garde, standard and others. Many people are most often interested in a massive board made of select oak. How does the “select” variety differ from other varieties, and why is it more in demand?
The select grade is not the highest, since some deviation in the arrangement of fibers is allowed in the manufacture of a massive board, but this deviation is insignificant. A massive board made of oak Select is considered optimal in terms of price / quality ratio. This is a selected massive parquet without sharp changes in shade, without cracks, knots, wormholes and other defects. After laying the floor looks monotonous, without distracting attention from other elements of the interior.
What colors are solid parquet boards made of oak grade "Select"?
The colors and shades of solid oak parquet boards help emphasize the individuality of the interior and indicate the taste of the owner. But the natural shades of wood are rather scarce, especially within any one species. Therefore, modern technologies allow you to give the flooring any conceivable shade. There are so many flowers that it makes no sense to list them all. A massive board made of select oak can have cognac, chestnut, chocolate and other shades.
To make the massive board more decorative, the most popular exotic shades are also given. In some cases, even bleaching is used. In this case, the board becomes dazzling white. There is such a massive board as: "Arctic Oak", "Snow Oak" or "Vanilla Oak". Of course, it is immediately clear that this is not a natural creation, but the work of human hands. But in some cases, just such options are required to create a certain interior.
What are the prices for solid Oak Select parquet?
The massive parquet board made of select oak, as already mentioned, is not the highest grade, but you can’t call it cheap either. We can say that in terms of cost it ranks second from the top. Each company sets its own prices for massive select oak parquet, which may differ from each other. But it can in no way be lower than the prices for a massive board of the "rustic" grade, for example, or "nature", since its quality is higher than the other specified grades.
If the same processing methods were applied to the solid oak select board, then its cost will be the same, regardless of the shade. But a varnish or oil coating can already to some extent affect the cost of a massive board. If you immediately think about the care and further restoration of the floor covering, then you should take into account that it is impossible to restore a small area of the varnish surface. In case of serious defects, it will be necessary to restore the entire floor. An oiled oak floor can be restored on a separate site, but this advantage is not critical, since the oiled solid board needs more careful handling. It is easier to scratch than varnished.
When determining the possible amount of flooring restoration, consider the operating conditions from the very beginning. If you are sure that the massive board will be used carefully, then choose an oil coating. This will help you save some money in the future.

Installation of floors requires a dry and even base - the maximum difference in height is 2 mm per 2 m². Parquet Befag can be laid on a warm floor (it is better to use water). Floating installation will require a cork underlay or similar.

Slightly patterned structure with slight color variations, with small knots. Differences in color between the strips are acceptable. Well grown healthy knots are allowed up to 3 mm if they are not black and not in a group. Sapwood 3-4 cm wide and 20-30 cm long is acceptable.

Slightly patterned structure with slight color differences between the lamellas and small knots. Well-grown healthy knots up to 5 mm in diameter, black knots up to 3 mm in diameter are acceptable even in a group. Sapwood 2-3 mm wide and 5-10 mm long is acceptable.
